MILL SPRINGS has obvious claims in this opener having finished runner-up over track and trip last time with Heart Locket three lengths behind. John Gosden's filly gets the nod competing on favourable terms with both Paddys Runner and Diamond Joel. Fern Owl showed some promise over 1m2f at Windsor on his debut and may figure with normal progress while the newcomer Ballynanty is related to a couple of winners and worth noting.
Ballynanty (IRE) Yeats colt out of Reina Blanca.
Fern Owl 20-1 (8-13) Started very slowly, ran green in rear, headway on outside over 2f out, stayed on inside final furlong, went 3rd towards finish, 3rd of 9, 3l behind Genres (8-13) at Windsor 1m 2f mdn auc stks (5) gf in May.
Paddys Runner 33-1 (9-7) Held up, headway 3f out, effort over 1f out, ridden and every chance inside final furlong, not quicken close home, 3rd of 14, 1l behind The Cashel Man (9-6) at Nottingham 1m 6f 3yo hcp 0-70 (5) gd.
Mill Springs 5-1 (8-10) Keen, tracked leader, challenged 2f out, slight lead soon after, edged left over 1f out, headed 1f out, kept on same pace, 2nd of 7, 1 1/4l behind Forever Popular (8-10) at Chepstow 1m 4f fll mdn stks (5) gf.
