      Verdict

      Free Zone was only beaten half-a-length in a better race than this at Windsor eight days ago. He races off the same mark so must go well while Gilmer has not finished out of the first three in five previous visits here, winning three times. Laura Young's charge also goes on the short-list along with June's Leicester winner Alizoom but Andar is proving hard to place and Operative ran poorly at Nottingham and is now blinkered. MONARCH MAID is fancied to confirm recent running here with Gilmer and go close, though Peter Hiatt's mare wouldn't want any rain. Midnight Rider is preferred to Wowcha and Gold Hunter of the others.
