chased leaders, mistake 5th, ridden approaching 2 out, mistake last, always held
chased winner throughout, mistake 5th, pushed along next, soon ridden, always held
made all, soon clear, unchallenged
mistake 1st, soon in rear, lost touch 4th, tailed off when pulled up before 2 out
slow jump 1st, blundered 4th, always towards rear
There was plenty to like about the performance of Ashton Vale at Newton Abbot last month. Though admittedly it was not the hottest of contests, once Ela d'Argent had unseated her pilot, Paul Nicholls' colt polished off the rest of the opposition with something to spare and with a similar effort here he will be thereabouts. Ruby Walsh is booked to ride Ashton Vale, who couldn't quite reproduce that run at Bangor last time, but cannot be ruled out. The filly Ela d'Argent is another to have turned to the obstacles fit from the flat and would surely be going for a hat-trick here had it not been for that Newton Abbot blunder. Martin Pipe has since sent her out to thrash the opposition at Perth recently and she will be the one they all have to beat. Gabor was the winner of a poor looking race at Plumpton last Saturday and will have to do more to take this one, while Mistanoora was making his debut under rules when one of those thrashed by Ela d'Argent recently. Though we should expect improvement from the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained gelding it would be asking a lot for her to turn around a 24-length defeat so soon.
