Leading Contender can make up for his recent defeat, with Carnival Town, Obaki de Grissay and The Sawyer all out to stop him. Leading Contender was all the rage on his recent reappearance at Worcester, having impressed in the main during his bumper campaign last season. However, he failed to justify his extremely short price and found one too good in Bradley Bear and is now out to silence his doubters. Without making excuses for the Hobbs inmate, he may well have just needed the run to sharpen him up, and this track will play to his strengths so he is taken to make amends with conditions to suit. Carnival Town was nowhere near as well fancied as the selection on his return at Bangor at the start of last month, but fared much better than his stablemate In Extra Time, going down by a neck at the finish. He should go well, while Obaki de Grissay will improve for the run and is one to watch over further this term. The Sawyer has plenty of experience, but again fitness is an issue, and for the winner we return to Leading Contender who can stamp his class on this field.
