WOOLCOMBE FOLLY has won four of his eight starts over fences and made a satisfactory reappearance when third at Chepstow. At today's weights, he's difficult to oppose as he's rated 10lb higher than West With The Wind and Gauvain yet gets weight from both. Evan Williams' charge may have been flattered by his defeat of Loosen My Load in a Grade 3 at Limerick last month and has done most of his winning on flat tracks, but Gauvain had the reluctant Chaninbar well behind when successful in the race 12 months ago and can't be ignored. Veteran Kinkeel's case looks hopeless, however.
West With The Wind 3-1 (11-8) Made all, slightly slow 5 out, clear from before straight, steadied and drifted left last, stayed on well run-in, comfortably, won at Limerick 2m 1f chs Grd 3 (1) in Oct beating Loosen My Load (11-8) by 6l, 4 ran.
Gauvain (GER) 11-1 (11-10) Prominent, hit 2nd, lost place after 6th, mistake 10th, well beaten when blundered 4 out, 8th of 11, 28l behind Albertas Run (11-10) at Cheltenham 2m 5f chs G1 (1) gd in Mar.
Woolcombe Folly (IRE) 7-2 (11-9) Chased leaders, outpaced
Chaninbar (FR) (10-3) in a race won by Reglis Brunel (10-3) at Auteuil(FR) 2m 6f chs G2 sft in Jun, 12 ran.
Kinkeel (IRE) 9-2 (11-3) Led until 6th, chased leader, led again before 10th, headed 4 out, soon ridden and weakened before next, 4th of 7, 12l behind Apache Brave (10-1) at Southwell 2m 4f hcp chs 0-90 (5) gd in Apr.
