Call Me Lord appeared to have Dolphin Square’s measure jumping the last at Sandown but his young rider dropped his hands close home and he was collared on the line. They meet on the same terms here so there shouldn’t be much between them again with David Maxwell’s mount also having won this 12 months ago. Wilde About Oscar was just behind at Sandown so can’t be ignored but Peking Rose was engaged in the 1.50 Newbury yesterday. We’ll take a chance on BRINKLEY, who isn’t badly treated on past form and ran well for a long way on his reappearance at Haydock. The progressive Abuffalosoldier and Jet Of Magic are much respected with the former’s win at Newbury in November being boosted by the runner-up at Wincanton on Boxing Day.
Thomas Darby (IRE) 7-1 (11-8) Tracked leading pair, disputed 2nd from 1st, outright 2nd at 6th until pushed along turning in, outpaced 3 out, no chance with leading duo, 3rd of 5, dist behind Champ (11-8) at Newbury 3m (1) gd in Nov.
