Danehill Kodiac and WEEKENDER are clear of the rest on today’s terms and the latter won last year’s renewal. Both ran poorly in the Sagaro Stakes over 2m at Ascot last week but John Gosden’s charge gets the vote to return to form on his third over today’s trip in September’s Irish St Leger. Danehill Kodiac has every chance if reproducing his placed effort in last season’s Ormonde Stakes at Chester but Blakeney Point has a bit to find with selection on running in the Ebor and Higher Power is best over further. Cohesion hasn’t raced since 2017 and is even harder to recommend.
Cohesion 5-1 (9-3) Tracked leader until ridden 2f out, weakened final furlong, last of 7, 9 1/4l behind Mountain Bell (8-12) at Newcastle 2m stks (2) pol in Dec.
Danehill Kodiac (IRE) 16-1 (9-2) Raced keenly, prominent 2f, held up behind, outpaced over 2f out, soon ridden, no chance with leaders, 5th of 7, 12 3/4l behind Dee Ex Bee (9-1) at Ascot 2m Grp 3 stks (1) gf in May.
Higher Power 12-1 (9-5) Prominent, went 2nd 13f out, led over 2f out, headed over 1f out, kept on same pace inside final furlong, 4th of 10, 4 1/4l behind Watersmeet (9-5) at Lingfield 2m stks (2) pol in Apr.
Weekender 11-4 (9-2) Led, driven and headed over 2f out, soon lost place and beaten, weakened final furlong, 6th of 7, 18 3/4l behind Dee Ex Bee (9-1) at Ascot 2m Grp 3 stks (1) gf in May.
Blakeney Point 40-1 (9-0) Tracked leaders, weakened 3f out, 8th of 9, 29 1/4l behind Marmelo (9-0) at Newbury 1m 4f Grp 3 stks (1) gs in Apr.
