        In depth

        Verdict

        Madaares can make his mark here, with Esoterica, Beowulf, Trumpita and Chateau to be noted for the future. Madaares is not highly tried for his return to action, having contested a class 3 event at York on his racecourse bow last August in which he finished a close sixth to Heureux. A half-brother to Nashaab, he will appreciate a furlong or two more as the season goes on, but certainly has the class to take this if handling the ground. Esoterica also shaped with promise on his Musselburgh debut last September but maybe does not have the same scope as the selection. The latter's stablemate Beowulf was disappointing on his first Turf start at Warwick recently but is fit and has a bit of experience to count on so should not be written off just yet. Trumpita ran green on his Southwell bow but still finished second and seems to handle soft ground, while Chateau changes code after appearing in a couple of bumpers last November and hails from a shrewd yard. Plenty to note for the future then, but for now it is Madaares that is the one to concentrate on.
