Invictus is an interesting German recruit for the Hammond team, but this looks to rest between the two penalised contenders. Our Thomas arguably boasts the stronger form on paper courtesy of finishing around four lengths behind Leoncavallo and Sceau Royal in Listed grade at Wetherby but the form of that contest may be somewhat unreliable due to a complete lack of early pace. John Ferguson, handler of Leoncavallo, therefore has a line through to JALEO (NAP) who was swept aside by Clan Des Obeaux at Newbury but easily accounted for the rest of his rivals. Clan Des Obeaux went on to finish an excellent second in the Triumph Hurdle Trial at Cheltenham last weekend to provide the form with a really healthy sheen.
Jaleo (GER) 7-4fav (11-5) Held up in last pair, steady headway 4th, chased leading pair approaching 3 out, went 2nd 2 out, shaken up between last two, held when mistake last, no chance with easy winner, 2nd of 8, 21l behind Clan Des Obeaux (10-12) at Newbury 2m (4) sft in Dec.
Our Thomas (IRE) 6-1 (11-2) Tracked leading pair 2nd, looked held when blundered last, 3rd of 5, 4l behind Leoncavallo (11-6) at Wetherby 2m lst (1) sft in Oct.
Hubal (POL) 66-1 (10-12) Tracked leaders, effort and every chance when not fluent 2 out, soon ridden and one pace, weakened flat, 5th of 13, 12 3/4l behind Berland (10-12) at Catterick 2m (4) sft in Dec.
Invictus (GER) (8-13) won at Hoppegarten 1m 1f stks gd in Oct beating Royal Solitaire (8-9) by hd, 10 ran.
Pariyan (FR) 7-2 (10-12) Chased leaders, took keen hold, not fluent 1st or 3 out, soon no chance with winner, pressed for 2nd from last, last of 3, 15 1/4l behind Officer Sydney (11-5) at Perth 2m (4) gf in Sep.
