Verdict
Weekend Fling gets the vote over Staked A Claim, with Singleb and Pearl Valley also worth noting. All four mentioned should be noted during the new Turf campaign, none more so than Weekend Fling, who showed up well for a long way on both starts, at Pontefract and Thirsk last summer. Mark Johnston's filly has a peach of a draw here in stall one, and as she is sure to have strengthened up over the winter, may develop into one to follow. Staked A Claim is a big half brother to Mount Abu, and caught the eye when fourth in a Beverley maiden last September, while stablemate Singleb is well bred on the dam's side, and will no doubt step up on his Southwell debut third in time. Any support for Richard Fahey's newcomer Pearl Valley should be heeded, as she is a half-sister to Astonished, Bishops Court, Cape Royal and Amused, and like them, also runs in the colours of David Brotherton. An interesting maiden can go to Weekend Fling.
