Verdict

In the seller, Merdiff gets a tentative vote ahead of Great Composer and Frenchmans Lodge. Where do you start in a race like this? Watch the betting is one approach. Maybe Amanda Perrett's first-time blinkered Great Composer, who drops to this grade for the first time, will provide the answer. Zafarshah is well up to winning this but has yet to produce his best on this track. Weet Watchers holds claims on form of two years ago and, even though he lacks recent Flat form, has run pretty well over hurdles. Stablemate Weet An Haul has Robert Winston on board but it would be hard to build a strong case for him. Tally has lost his way of late, while Renegade can certainly be given claims on his best pieces of form. A return to his summer form would give Frenchmans Lodge claims, while first-time blinkers over a longer trip seemed to help Beau Marche last time and you never know. The simple truth is , though, that much as he has not raced on Turf for some time now, Merdiff has form enough on these terms to be afforded a very respectable chance of winning and, in what is to say the least a tricky race, he gets the vote.
