California Chrome is the 12th horse since 1979 bidding for the Triple Crown having landing the first two legs. The previous 11 all failed stepping up to 1m4f at the New Jersey track so it looks worth taking him on. California Chrome has already beaten six of today's rivals in either the Kentucky Derby or Preakness including RIDE ON CURLIN, but the latter has a good chance of turning the tables here. The son of Curlin, beaten in a photo-finish in the Belmont and sire of last year's winner, looks sure to relish this longer trip having finished runner-up in the Preakness last time. Wicked Strong was fancied in the Kentucky Derby and gave the Preakness a miss. So did Churchill Downs runner-up Commanding Curve, so that pair will be fresher than most. Outside of the Triple Crown form, Tonalist beat Commissioner and Matterhorn in a Grade 2 race here last month and he's another with a chance of upsetting California Chrome's hopes of making history.
