Tournedos stands out in the opener, with Canton and Russian General looking best of the others. The selection won well on his Newbury debut and, with the runner-up having won since, the form has a solid look to it. Much as he has to concede weight to the field, his rider takes off three pounds and he might be up to the task. All-weather winner Canton, who ran well when not beaten far in fourth behind Dance Night at Chester last time, rates an obvious danger, while the betting might provide some clues as to the chances of the nicely-bred Paul Cole newcomer Russian General. Troublesome Gerri showed some promise on her debut and the second from that race has gone on to win well since. However, she will probably be found wanting again and all roads lead back to the selection, which is Tournedos.
