In depth

Verdict

MINT CONDITION completed a hurdles double over slightly shorter here a year ago and scored over a bit further at Wetherby before beaten a neck in a Grade 2 at Warwick. He was coughing post-race on his reappearance and gets the nod to make a winning start over fences. Ballybegg completed a double over timber earlier in the year and didn't appear to take to fences on his return at Carlisle while Fern Hill completed a Wetherby hurdles double at this time last year and was racing in Grade 2 company over 3m when pulling up at Doncaster in January. Butler's Brief completed a hat-trick at Class 4 level over timber in the spring but found Class 2 company beyond him at Cheltenham last month. Champagnesuperover raced in Grade 1 company over hurdles in the spring and will be better for his chasing debut at Carlisle while the bottom pair have plenty of chasing experience but look vulnerable to classier types.
