Plenty with chances in a tricky-looking contest. Asum would have been placed at Stratford last month had he not fallen at the last but Lord Huntingdon was beaten when suffering a similar fate at Ludlow. Like the latter, HEAD HIGH is only a four-year-old and the grey had been showing steady progress prior to landing a maiden at Huntingdon. He may be capable of better and is preferred to stablemate Zenafire and Warwick runner-up Hill Fort, who prefers soft going. Derintoher Yank won a couple of times at Carlisle in the autumn and is lightly raced so not out of this but Aldeburgh has never really taken to hurdles.
Derintoher Yank (IRE) 5-2fav (11-2) Led, mistake 4th, strongly challenged after 3 out, headed last, weakened quickly, 4th of 5, 17 1/4l behind Applesandpierres (11-3) at Wetherby 2m 4f hcp (3) gd in Apr.
Asum 2-1fav (10-11) Raced keenly, held up in last pair, steady headway tracking leaders approaching 3 out, ridden and went 2nd before the last, 1 length down when fell heavily last, at Stratford 2m hcp (3) gd in Apr.
Lord Huntingdon 6-4fav (11-5) Held up mid-division, went 3rd from 4 out, went 2nd before 3 out until weakening in 3rd when fell last, at Ludlow 2m (4) gd in Apr.
Head High (IRE) 13-2 (10-10) Keen, in touch, headway before 2 out, ridden to lead when hit last, pressed flat, ran on gamely, won at Huntingdon 2m mdn (5) gd in Apr beating Spiritual Man (11-2) by nk, 9 ran.
Zenafire 11-2 (8-5) Broke well, held up in rear, niggled along 7f out, one pace over 2f out, stayed on inside final furlong, went 3rd towards finish, 3rd of 7, 6 1/4l behind Monjeni (8-11) at Haydock 1m 6f hcp (4) gf in May.
