In depth

Verdict

Or de Grugy was good value for his success on fast ground at Wetherby earlier this month and Sue Bradburne's gelding has to be respected but he may struggle to defy the 8lb rise for that victory on a soft surface today and preference is for First Look, with Native Coral rated the pick of the remainder. The selection disappointed on his return to hurdling at Carlisle recently but is better than that run suggests and Peter Monteith's gelding should relish the underfoot conditions today so looks worth chancing. Don McCain's Chickapeakray ended last season in good form and would have claims if fit enough for his return, while Green Ideal is not the most consistent of performers and may have to settle for minor honours. The Nicky Richards-trained Native Coral is less exposed than most of these and has to be considered but First Look looks the percentage call and he gets the vote.
