Verdict

The Mark Johnston-trained Hawks Tor is likely to be a warm order for this maiden contest and we like the look of him too ahead of Makepeace and possibly Ballycroy Girl. The selection cost 480,000 guineas and is by Danehill out of a mare from a successful family. That, plus the fact that his debut has been eagerly awaited is as much as we know and we will find out more today. Makepeace was very weak in the market when down the field at Windsor on his debut but he ran green on that occasion and should know a lot more today, while Buddy Brown could be interesting from the Howard Johnson stable as she is from a winning German family. Another principally-National Hunt trainer, Thomas Tate, runs Dancer's Serenade, and there is plenty to like in the breeding of this 27,000 euros purchase. Ballycroy Girl missed the break on her debut and this daughter of Pennekamp should be noted in the betting. That is not a bad policy to adopt in these races but all the talk will be of Hawks Tor and he gets our vote.
