In depth

Verdict

Peters Pride can defy a penalty at the expense of Bog Boots and newcomer Castle Craigs. Generally, it does not do to support bumper debut winners carrying a penalty, but Alan Swinbank has such a good record in this sphere that Peters Pride is worth chancing to hump his burden to a follow-up victory. He certainly gave the impression when hacking up at Catterick in January that there was a lot more to come, and in truth he has no more to do here. Big Boots ran out of steam on his Leopardstown bow after setting a steady pace throughout, and gets the age-allowance today, so he should be prominent for a while at least, while any support for Castle Craigs should be noted. The Nicky Richards inmate is a half-brother to an Irish winner over timber, and the dam is related to Whitbread hero Shady Deal. He should give owners Ashleybank Investments plenty of fun in the future. For now though, we shall rely on Peters Pride to do the business.
