Verdict

A winner of three of his four starts over hurdles, Our Vic created a favourable impression on his chasing debut at Exeter earlier this month and is taken to win this, at the main expense of Rosslea and L'Aventure, en-route to the Cheltenham. Martin Pipe has yet to decide, publicly at least, which race Our Vic will take in at the Festival meeting but an impressive display here would make the Royal & SunAlliance a distinct possibility for the son of the French Derby winner Old Vic. The Philip Hobbs-trained Double Honour will be suited by this test of stamina but the six-year-old has yet to convince with his jumping and he makes less appeal than either Rosslea or L'Aventure. The last mentioned of that pair is trained by Paul Nicholls and lost no caste in defeat behind Patricksnineteenth at Sandown a fortnight ago. She would probably prefer a softer surface to show her best form though and a bigger threat is likely to come from Henrietta Knight's Rosslea. The son of Roselier gained a deserved first success over fences running out the easy winner of a race at Kempton earlier this month. Earlier placed form looks very solid and he is the one most likely should Our Vic fail to run up to expectations. Sue Smith's Better Days has some decent form to his name but faces no easy task giving weight away all round and, in receipt of 4lbs we prefer to side with the potentially top class Our Vic.
