In depth

Verdict

There has to be a doubt about the form of the Nicky Henderson string after the marked dip in performance by his runners at the Festival this week so, as much as they is respected, Lord Of The River and Ain Tecbalet are probably best left alone for betting purposes and waited with for another day. Therefore, a chance is taken with the Lavinia Taylor-trained Infrasonique, who has finally dropped to a handy mark after enduring a frusta ring spell in the grip of the handicapper. Although the same comments apply to top weight Tresor De Mai, who loves his racing at Ascot and is now 26lbs lower than when he was adjudged to be at his best. However, Martin Pipe's charge has a little to find with the selection on form from earlier in the season and his tendency to throw in the towel has become an annoying trait for his supporters to cope with of late. Therefore, Infrasonique, with the visor on for the first time, is given the benefit of the doubt in the hope that the headgear can keep him focused when push comes to shove. Infrasonique, ran better than his form figure would suggest in the Grand Military Gold Cup earlier in the month and he would not have too much to find on that performance to out-last a number of these today. Tom Costalot is also back on a fair mark but is too hard to recommend for anything other than a place behind the selection.
