Verdict
Veiled won this last year off a 7lb lower mark while Elyaadi was second in the Queen Alexandra Stakes over an extra 2f. Both have to go on the short-list along with Al Khawaneej, who has won his last three starts though has yet to prove he stays this far or handles give in the ground. Monterey beat Danvilla by just over a length over 1m7f at Newmarket but there may not be much to choose between the pair on today's revised terms while Dark Ranger keeps finding one too good and is 8lb higher than when runner-up at York. COSIMO DE MEDICI beat Dark Ranger over 2m2f at Newmarket last year and ran a nice prep race over an inadequate trip on his reappearance at Goodwood. He'll be staying on when others have cried enough and can land this. Ashbrittle was a winner over hurdles during the winter and looks the pick of David Pipe's pair while Scots Gaelic could be interesting after a confidence-boosting victory at Fairyhouse. Becausewecan is useful on his day but is probably a shade high in the weights here.
