Verdict

It is to be hoped there is no draw bias and if that is the case, Beauchamp Pilot would have a great chance, providing the ground does not dry out too much. He had no trouble at Haydock in disposing of Champion Lodge, who then went on to beat a useful field at York, off a 2lb higher mark, so Beauchamp Pilot could turn out to be a well handicapped horse. Unlucky in running in the Victoria Cup, Sea Star then made amends at York, where under a positive ride he had little difficulty in winning. He is lightly raced and should be open to further improvement. Kelburne has been a revelation this season and providing his high draw is no disadvantage, he looks sure to give a good account, while Island Light, looks to have been laid out for this. He has been ridden in all his races to date by Royston Ffrench, but has Fallon on board here. His second at Sandown, behind Duke Of Modena reads well enough, even more so now as he had Nayyir, who was in receipt of 5lbs there, just under a length behind in fourth. The latter went on to run a cracker in Tuesday's Group 2 Queen Anne Stakes and if that form can be taken literally, he would be the one to beat. The drying ground will help last years winner Surprise Encounter, but he has to overcome a 9lb higher mark and may find some of these too progressive for him.
