In depth

Verdict

A poor race by Aintree's standards and plenty of nagging doubts affecting all of these runners. Ebony Light is forgiven an off-day last time out and gets our nod. Ginger McCain's weekend will be very much geared around stable star Amberleigh House but this sort has produced wins under similar conditions and has less negatives than most. Paul Nicholls has proved that he can get horses back from long absences when Spring Margot was produced from a long layoff to score a couple of weeks ago. Bunratty Castle looked to be going places before his absence and is duly watched in the market. Ballylusky is chucked in here vis-a-vis his hurdles rating and is sure to be popular. Providing that he has not been affected by the bug in his stable, he is certainly well handicapped enough to take this. Tyndarius is an out-and-out stayer while Young Lorcan has done the majority of his racing with markedly different conditions. A difficult race in which Ebony Light is chanced at the expense of others.
