That was the situation facing Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers offence at the end of their game with the Dallas Cowboys. Having led throughout, rookie quarterback Dak Prescott led a Dallas fightback, and it looked as though the Cowboys may have forced overtime.
However, Rodgers, who is widely regarded as the most in-form quarterback in the NFL, had other ideas. With under 20 seconds left, on third down, Rodgers took the ball out of the pocket, wheeling round to the left hand sideline.
Looking downfield, he found tight end Jared Cook, who kept both feet in bounds as he dived to make the catch. It was a 36-yard gain, and enough to give the Packers a 51-yard field goal attempt with three seconds on the clock.
Kicker Mason Crosby then took to the field with a chance to clinch a place in the NFC Championship game.
After completing a season-long 56-yard attempt just minutes earlier, Crosby nailed the kick but was forced to retake after Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett called a time-out, in an attempt to 'ice' the ten-year veteran.
Lining up once more, Crosby took the kick again, with the same outcome as he watched the ball sail through the uprights to give the Packers a 34-31 win.
They will now face the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1, for a place in the Super Bowl.
