Dustin Johnson holes out from the greenside bunker at the par-three seventh on the opening day of the Presidents Cup for Team USA.

Dustin Johnson is well known for his power hitting with the driver but showed he is equally adept with his short game as he produced a hole out from the bunker during the opening day of the Presidents Cup.

The American world No 1, partnered by Matt Kuchar, executed an exquisite bunker shot from the greenside bunker at the par-three seventh to perfection.

The ball ran out before dropping in the cup for a gain over the International Team pairing of Jhonattan Vegas and Adam Scott.

The International team had secured a 1up lead following the opening six holes and despite a wayward tee shot from Kuchar at the seventh into the bunker the hosts recovered in perfect fashion to square the match up at Liberty National GC.

Johnson showed some excellent touch and distance control in blustery conditions to land the ball perfectly on the green before it ran a few feet before dropping into the heart of the cup to energise an already jubilant and partisan home faithful.

Team USA, captained by Steve Stricker, looking to regain the biennial matchplay title they won in Incheon in 2015 enjoyed a dominant start to this year's edition in New Jersey against a lacklustre International team.
