Kat Ratnapala has been appointed as assistant coach at Herfordshire Mavericks after leaving her role as head coach with Surrey Storm.

After guiding Surrey to the Superleague title, Ratnapala returned to the Mavericks ahead of the new season, joining director of netball Robyn Broughton and Assistant Coach Camilla Buchanan in Hertfordshire.

Ratnapala previously worked as assistant coach with the Mavericks for two years before moving to Surrey in January and could not turn down the chance to become part of Hertfordshire's new-look coaching line-up.

"When the opportunity arose to re-join Mavericks, it was a very exciting prospect," said Ratnapala. "The professionalism, passion and support that the club has is arguably the strongest in the league. With such a strong coaching force and family at Mavericks, It was an opportunity I couldn't refuse.

"I'd like to thank Storm coaches, players and fans for all their support last season. It was an incredible year and one that I learnt a great deal from.

"Looking ahead, I'm really excited and honoured to be able to work alongside Robyn, who comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience and has coached some of the world's best players. Also to work alongside my old England and Superleague team mate Camilla Buchanan will be fantastic.

The departure of Ratnapala from Surrey follows Tamsin Greenway's decision to leave her role as Director of Netball with the Storm, while the reigning champions have also lost the services of Pamela Cookey, who has become Director of Netball with Severn Stars.
