Michael Dawson is confident Hull City can avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

Hull are currently 18th in the division with 10 points from their past 12 games, putting them two above Sunderland and leading bottom club Swansea City by four.

Sunderland beat Hull 3-0 last weekend, but Dawson is confident the Tigers can begin to build some momentum when they host ninth-placed West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

"It's going to be a fight and there are a number of other teams in the fight but we'll keep going and keep believing," the Hull defender told the club's website.

"This squad is good enough to stay in the Premier League - it doesn't matter how we get the points on the board - we've just got to get them."

Sitting in a snug bottom half, three teams lead Hull by a single point, with Middlesbrough 15th ahead of Crystal Palace and West Ham United who are behind them on goal difference.

"We had opportunities against Sunderland - we have to be more clinical in the final third, but we also have to start keeping clean sheets," Dawson said.

"We're one point behind the teams above us at the moment, and it's a case of looking to the next game and making sure we're better than the last one."

The team will have to pull out all the stops to avoid relegation, already conceding 27 goals and losing eight of their 12 league games this season.

"If we had won last weekend, the table would be looking a lot different," the 33-year-old said.
