Kyle Edmund won the battle of the Brits at Eastbourne, beating Andy Murray 6-4 6-4 in their second-round match.
Two-time Wimbledon champion Murray, playing his second tournament since last year's Wimbledon, will now make a decision on whether he will compete in the grass court major this year.
With his renowned forehand in full working order, Edmund had the better of things throughout, securing an early break in each set.
He was broken himself when serving for the match at 5-2 in the second set but made no mistake at the second time of asking, sending a pass down the line to set up a quarter-final against Mikhail Kukushkin.
The Scot has lost now two out of three matches since returning from injury and has admitted that he has competed better than expected against high-calibre opposition.
A three-set defeat to Nick Kyrgios at Queen's was followed by victory over Stan Wawrinka in Monday's first-round encounter at the Nature Valley International.
On Wednesday Murray came up against the man who has taken over as the top-ranked Brit while he has watched on from the sidelines with a hip injury that eventually required surgery.
Edmund said: "It was a bit of a tough match, mentally, playing Andy, but I had to try to view it as another match.
"I've looked up to Andy so much, and he's looked after me and really been good for me, so it's a bit of a weird feeling.
"I was a bit nervous towards the end."
Cameron Norrie is also through to the last eight and he will take on Lukas Lacko after beating Jay Clarke 6-4 6-3 in the first all-British match of the day.
