Thiemo de Bakker was left applauding compatriot Robin Haase after the Dutchman hit a forehand winner in their first-round match in Rotterdam

Robin Haase fired a whipped forehand winner during his first-round victory over countryman Thiemo de Bakker at Rotterdam's ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament.

The world No 42 dominated proceedings against the world No 352 and the early warning signs were clear to see for De Bakker when Haase hit an exquisitely timed groundstroke down the line as his opponent stood motionless on the baseline.

Haase raced to a 6-2 6-2 victory in 53 minutes in Wednesday's second match on the Centre Court and did not face a single break point while he secured two breaks of serve in each set.

The 30-year-old will next meet wildcard world No 259 Tallon Griekspoor in the second round after the Dutchman stunned Stan Wawrinka in the first round, with the winner a potential quarter-final opponent for Roger Federer.

We will be covering the ATP ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, Rio Open, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, and ATP 500 Acapulco in February on sky.mnosports.com/tennis with news, previews, live blogs, reports and expert analysis.
