Dominic Thiem looked to be caught off-guard during his match against Fernando Verdasco at the Paris Masters on Thursday before improvising brilliantly.
As the season winds to a close, fatigue continued to take its toll as fifth seed Thiem was knocked out in the third round.
Thiem, who has already qualified for the ATP Finals in London, lost 6-4 6-4 to 33-year-old left-hander Verdasco, who had never previously been past the third round in Paris.
The shot of the match came in the second set as Thiem looked to be caught off-guard from Verdasco's second serve, which appeared to be swinging away for an ace, until the young Austrian improved his return quite brilliantly.
