Roger Federer managed to save break point with this superb half volley

Roger Federer was crowned Swiss Indoors champion for an eighth time and his quarter-final win against Adrian Mannarino saw one of the shots of the year - perhaps even of all-time.

The top seed got the jitters for the first time in a while and lost the opening set 6-4 to the talented Mannarino, the first set the Frenchman had ever won against his opponent.

But the world No 2 bounced back to win 4-6 6-1 6-3 in one hour and 43 minutes.

His half-volley from the baseline at break point down during the deciding set had Sky Sports commentating team Mark Petchey and Barry Cowan drooling.

"When I won this point, I thought Mannarino could take a bit of a psychological hit," Federer said. "If I play this point 100 times, I think I win it like five times. I made a good choice, left myself room to play the half-volley. But I would never anticipate it would finally transform into a winner down the line."

Petchey said of the winner: "Just like a great author they never really pass away because you continue to read their words. I mean, that is just ludicrous skill."
