Wakefield have slipped to defeats to Salford, Bradford and Wigan so far this term, while the visitors have suffered losses to Hull, Castleford and Leeds.
Recent history between the sides at Belle Vue favours the Wildcats, who have won their last two home meetings with the Dragons.
The home side will give debuts to former Bradford prop Nick Scruton and winger Chris Riley, who has joined them on a month's loan from Warrington.
"We have injuries and suspensions in the backs so his (Riley's) experience will really help us out over the next month and he will bring a lot of energy to our team," said Wakefield coach Richard Agar.
But hopes of including Australian half-back recruit Harry Siejka have been dashed when his arrival in the UK was delayed.
Forward Jon Molloy has also been included in Agar's 19-man squad for the first time this season.
The Dragons, who are without 11 senior players through injury and suspension, are set to give forwards Louis Anderson and Benjamin Garcia their first appearances of the season.
Reserve team prop Gadwin Springer could also make his Super League debut after being named in coach Laurent Frayssinous' 19-man squad.
Wakefield squad: Briscoe, Crowther, Fox, Godinet, Kirmond, Lauitiiti, Lyne, Mathers, McShane, Molloy, Riley, Ryan, Sammut, Scruton, Smith, Sykes, Tautai, Washbrook, Wildie.
Catalans squad: Anderson, Baile, Baitieri, Barthau, Escare, Fakir, Garcia, Lima, Mounis, Oldfield, Paea, Pala, Pelissier, Pryce, Springer, Taia, Vaccari, Webb, Whitehead.
