Richie Myler has been ruled out of Salford City Reds' home game against Super League leaders St Helens.
The England international scrum-half has not played for the Reds since turning down a lucrative offer to stay at the club on June 23.
He has been prevented from training in the build up to the game because of a heel injury and so has not been included in Shaun McRae's 19-man squad.
Luke Adamson makes a welcome return to the second-row, though, following a two-game absence as the Reds look to bounce back from a run of three straight Super League reversals.
Huddersfield Giants were the last to inflict defeat on McRae's men and the coach is keen to see his side get back on track.
"Realistically I'd say we need to win seven of our remaining 10 games to have a shot at the play-offs," McRae said. "I'm not saying that's impossible, but we need to get a roll on, especially at home.
"Young Dean McGilvray will come back into the reckoning. We are a bit short of outside backs through injury and he will be itching at the chance to play against his former club."
Record
St Helens hooker Keiron Cunningham is out for up to four weeks after undergoing minor knee surgery.
Former Australia centre Matt Gidley is also missing due to a quad strain, but stand-off Leon Pryce should be fit despite struggling with a similar problem.
The Super League leaders head to The Willows on the back of a 30-0 rout of the Celtic Crusaders and have not lost since the Millennium Magic weekend on May 2.
A 38-12 win over Salford at Knowsley Road earlier in the season will provide an extra degree of confidence as they look to add to their new Super League record of 16 consecutive away victories.
