Salford look set to welcome back Rob Parker for the visit of Castleford to the Willows on Sunday.
The experienced prop has been sidelined for three months with a broken hand but is ready to make his comeback this weekend.
In a further boost to the Reds, half-back Daniel Holdsworth also hopes to return from a calf injury that has ruled him out of the last two games.
Salford, who were beaten 34-12 at high-flying Hull last time out, lost both home and away to the Tigers in the engage Super League last season.
Tired Tigers
Castleford will be playing their second game in the week having triumphed 24-20 over bottom club Catalans Dragons on Tuesday night.
Michael Shenton had to be carried off towards the end of the game at the Jungle and there were concerns he had seriously damaged ligaments in his knee.
However the injury to the England centre is not as serious as first feared, with the possibility that he could be back playing next month.
Utility back Ryan McGoldrick returns to coach Terry Matterson's 19-man squad in place of Shenton after serving a one match ban.
Second-rower Ryan Clayton is also available after recovering from a facial injury - he comes in at the expense of fellow forward Oliver Holmes.
Salford squad: Fitzpatrick, J. Smith, Henry, Talau, Gibson, Adamson, Parker, Sidlow, Alker, Broughton, Sibbit, Sneyd, Swain, M. Smith, Littler, Leuluai, Tyrer, Holdsworth, Boyle.
Castleford squad: Dixon, Wainwright, Chase, Sargent, Hudson, Huby, Ferres, Snitch, Westerman, Jones, Higgins, Jackson, Clayton, Thompson, McGoldrick, Widders, Walker, Arundel, Wood.
