Jenna Brooks has all the big news coming out of the NRL as Parramatta's fallout continues, Cronulla make it 14 wins in a row, plus details of a new host for State of Origin 2019.

Eels fallout continues

Parramatta's chairman Steve Sharp resigned on Saturday in the wake of the salary cap scandal. Sharp made his decision public in a letter to the club's members.

The sacking of the club's board is expected early this week, with an administrator to be put in charge of the league club and a new merit-based Eels football club board likely to be appointed within the next two months.

After being docked 12 league points, the Eels' finals hopes are now over following their 22-18 loss to Penrith on Sunday. The Panthers came from 12 points behind at half-time to clinch the win and stay in the hunt for the top eight.

Manly have kept their finals hopes alive with a golden-point win over the Warriors. Daly Cherry-Evans kicked the winning field goal to seal the 15-14 win in Perth.

The Sea Eagles recorded back-to-back victories for the first time since March to take them within four points of eighth place, and Cherry-Evans said the belief within the team is high.

"Although it's still a very high mountain for us to climb to get to the finals, we have confidence and we are building nicely," said Cherry-Evans.

Next week Manly play the struggling South Sydney before hosting bottom-of-the-table Newcastle the following week.

South Sydney's disappointing season continued. They were beaten by 20 points at home by a depleted Brisbane side - the Rabbitohs' sixth straight defeat.

The Broncos backed up just three days after State of Origin III to win 30-10 and get their season back on track, while the loss has all but ended the Rabbitohs' finals hopes. They now must win all their remaining games.

Perth to play host

Perth will host a State of Origin game for the first time in 2019. The second game of the series will be played in the capital of Western Australia, with only one match being played in Sydney and one in Brisbane.

NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg confirmed the move, and it comes after news that a game will also be played in Melbourne in 2018 in a bid to grow the sport in Australia.

Former State of Origin star Jamal Idris is set to return to the NRL next year. Idris has put himself on the open market after he rediscovered his love for the sport.

Idris said: "I am ready to come back bigger, better and the best I have ever been."

Idris stepped away from the sport last November, giving up a multi-million dollar contract with Penrith to travel through Europe, Africa and Asia.

The former Bulldogs junior has begun preparing for his return. "I am lifting almost the same as what I did when I left," said Idris.

The 26-year-old says he is open to all offers, including a return to Canterbury. "I would never say no to going back to the Doggies.

"I just want to play footy. It is a part of my life and it can't be replaced. It has just taken me until now to work that out.''

Jordan Turner is the latest Englishman to join the NRL. The St Helens centre has signed a two-year deal and will make the move to Canberra next season.

"It's been a long-standing dream of mine to play in the NRL," said Turner, who revealed it was former team-mate Sia Soliola who helped him make the decision.

"When Sia was at St Helens, we got along really well. I spoke to him about Canberra and the team. He was very helpful in making my decision."
