Melbourne Storm won a torrid physical battle with South Sydney to hold on to top spot in Australia's NRL.

The Storm, stung by last week's defeat at the hands of the Gold Coast Titans after conceding 38 points, recovered their defensive steel to block out the Rabbitohs 14-6 in Perth.

Melbourne led 10-6 at half-time and their unyielding defence kept out South Sydney, who had the majority of the possession in the second half.
