NRL round-up: Jason Nightingale hat-trick lifts St Georrge Illawarra

A Jason Nightingale hat-trick propelled St George Illawarra to a 28-6 win over Wests Tigers and second place behind Melbourne Storm in the NRL standings.

England international Gareth Widdop also continued his sizzling early season form, having a hand in all five tries in the Dragons' win at the Olympic stadium.

The Dragons hold down second spot on points differential from the Sydney Roosters and North Queensland.

Melbourne are the only unbeaten team after five rounds, maintaining their unbeaten start with a hard-fought 28-6 home win over Penrith.

Despite the comfortable margin, the Storm were made to work for it against the Panthers.

Kieran Foran made his long-awaited return to the NRL to help the New Zealand Warriors to a come-from-behind 28-22 over the Gold Coast Titans in Auckland on Sunday.

Kiwi international stand-off Foran was making his first appearance in 10 months following off-field gambling and drinking issues.

As he worked his way in to the game Foran became more influential including scoring a match-levelling try late in the game.

Warriors second-rower Ryan Hoffman scored the match-winning try with two minutes.

Sydney Roosters lost their unbeaten start to the season after Dylan Walker claimed a late double to give Manly Sea Eagles an 18-12 victory.

The Sea Eagles claimed their third successive victory with Walker back to his best and clinched victory with his 40-metre burst late in the game.

North Queensland Cowboys accounted for South Sydney 20-6 in Townsville.

The battle between the 2014 and 2015 champions never reached any great heights but North Queensland were by far the better side and improved to 4-1 this season.

It took a James Maloney drop goal to save the blushes of champions Cronulla in their 19-18 win over the lowly Newcastle Knights.

The Knights came close to snatching a memorable victory when they clawed their way back into the match in the final 12 minutes with two late tries, only for Maloney to break their hearts with the one-pointer.
