South Sydney have signed England winger Joe Burgess from Sydney Roosters for the rest of the 2016 season ahead of his return to Wigan.
Burgess, 21, last week revealed he was cutting short his stay in the NRL in order to return to his hometown club on a three-year deal from 2017 and on Friday he was formally released by the Roosters.
"Joe is a quality winger and he sees an opportunity to play more first grade football for the rest of the year with our club," said Souths' former Wigan coach Michael Maguire, who consulted with his successor Shaun Wane before finalising the deal.
"He has played international football and is an excellent finisher and we look forward to seeing him turn out in the red and green for the rest of this year."
Burgess, who won three caps for England in 2015, made just four appearances for the Roosters, including his NRL debut against Souths in March.
He will join namesakes and fellow England internationals Sam, George and Tom Burgess at the Rabbitohs and was a late addition on the wing for Friday's game against Penrith Panthers.
Sam Burgess scored twice but it wasn't enough to prevent the Rabbitohs suffering a 28-26 loss at Pepper Stadium, their 10th defeat in 15 games in 2016.
