Castleford Tigers have signed Halifax full-back Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e for the rest of the 2018 season.

The former Samoan International, known throughout rugby league as 'Q', moves to the Super League side just six weeks after joining Championship club Halifax RLFC from Toronto Wolfpack.

Halifax confirmed Laulu-Togaga'e asked for a clause in his contract that if he was approached by a Super League club he could leave, although they have not ruled out his return.

"We may see Q again playing for fax at some point this year," the club said in a statement.

It is hoped Laulu-Togaga'e will temporarily fill the gap created by the departure of former Tiger's full-back, Zak Hardaker, who was suspended and subsequently sacked earlier this year after testing positive for cocaine.

Tiger's head coach, Daryl Powell, says the Samoan is a key signing for the team after limited success finding a replacement full-back.

"I've always really liked him as a player, I think he is a great fit for the way that we play," Powell said.

"We have got some work to do this season and I think he could play a key part in helping us to improve".

Laulu-Togaga'e, who trained with his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday, said the Tigers were not the only Super League club to make him an offer.

"I only found out the move last night and my head is still spinning a little bit but I've been out there this morning for my first session with the boys and I'm really excited to be involved with such a great club," the full-back said.

"I had another Super League club wanting me but it was a no brainer to come to Cas."

Tiger's director of rugby Jon Wells said the six month contract is a "huge opportunity" for Laulu-Togaga'e to test himself.

He added: "Whether he stays with us beyond 2018 is now down to Q and we are all looking forward to seeing him play with pride in the Cas jersey."

The Tigers are currently fifth in the Super League with their next game against Hull K R on June 1.
