Andre Savelio has joined Castleford Tigers on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 21-year-old will fill the gap caused by the transfer of Danny Tickle to Leigh and is set to make his debut in Sunday's derby against Wakefield, the last match of the regular season.

Savelio has made 42 appearances for Saints since making his debut against Leeds in 2014.

But he has not played since May 22, in St Helens' defeat to Huddersfield, and asked for the loan move to gain more match fitness.

"I'm really excited to be joining the Tigers for the rest of this season," he said.

"I have a lot of respect for (coach) Daryl Powell and the way he coaches and I'm looking forward to getting straight in to training."

St Helens do not have the right of a recall but he cannot play against them in the Super 8s.

Savelio, who came through the club's youth academy, signed a contract extension last year with the Saints until 2017.

Tigers coach Powell said: "Andre Savelio is an outstanding young player who will now replace Danny Tickle in our squad for the rest of the season.

"Andre has always caused us trouble when we have played against him in the past and I'm sure he will fit neatly into the way that we play. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome him to the club."
