Huddersfield Giants' new signing Sebastine Ikahihifo has been sidelined for two months with a broken jaw he initially diagnosed as toothache.
The 25-year-old joined the Giants on a free transfer from St George Illawarra Dragons last month on a two-and-a-half year deal.
Ikahihfo, the former New Zealand Warriors back-row forward, sustained the injury on his second Super League appearance at Widnes on May 29.
"Seb has had surgery and he is going to be looking at around eight weeks out," said Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson.
"He was complaining of toothache but he has got a clean break in his jaw. We asked him when he did it in the Widnes game but he just thought it was toothache."
Meanwhile, Huddersfield have confirmed their interest in another player from the NRL, Manly Sea Eagles centre Tom Symonds.
The 27-year-old made his NRL debut for Sydney Roosters in 2009 before making the move to Manly four years later.
