Leeds coach Brian McDermott believed certain Hull FC players were guilty of trying to buy easy penalties.

Despite a 38-26 win for his Leeds Rhinos' side over Hull, their coach Brian McDermott was far from happy post-match.

Leeds' 12th successive home win over Hull ensured a top-four finish and, five points clear of third-placed Hull with three rounds left of the Super 8s, almost certainly a home semi-final but McDermott was unhappy with what he called 'embarrassing' tactics from certain Hull FC players.

"It was a horrible game, horrible," McDermott told Sky Sports.

"We were involved in a tackle which I thought was a reasonably dominant tackle - although not the most dominant tackle ever. There was a bit of confusion and then one of the Hull players just decided to let go of the ball. He clearly just let go of the ball and then looked at the referee to say that you have to award me a penalty.

I cannot get across to you just how frustrating when the referee then goes 'Ok, I'll award you a penalty' like he's giving a small child the attention that he needs.

"That is the problem with the game. Our players don't have to work out how to get out of tough situations through smart play, through a bit of strength and carrying or a bit of toughness. They just throw themselves about and say to the referee 'can you get us out please.;

"It is massive problem in the game and it is embarrassing for us."
