Leeds Rhinos captain Danny McGuire has been ruled out of his team's World Club Challenge clash against Australian champions North Queensland Cowboys because of injury.

The 33-year-old is likely to be absent for around two months after suffering a problem with his knee.

McGuire sustained the injury during the opening match of Super League on Thursday night.

Scans have confirmed the half-back will not be back in action in time for the prestigious match-up on February 21.

McGuire, who had taken over the captaincy from the departed Kevin Sinfield, limped off 31 minutes into the Rhinos' 12-10 defeat by Warrington at Headingley and left the ground with his knee in a brace.

"Thanks for all the messages last night, decent news back from scan so hopefully only miss a couple of months," McGuire said on social media.
