Hull FC vice-captain Danny Houghton is determined to end the club's 11-year wait to win the Challenge Cup - and break their Wembley hoodoo.

The Airlie Birds face Warrington in the final on Saturday after a thrilling 16-12 victory over Wigan Warriors last month.

Although their 2005 victory over Leeds in Cardiff was their third Challenge Cup success, Hull have never won at the national stadium despite getting to the final seven times.

However, Houghton believes that under coach Lee Radford the club, who have booked a place in the Super League play-off semi-finals, are in with a chance of completing the treble.

"The Challenge Cup means everything to this club," the hooker said. "It's something that is spoken about every single year and getting that monkey off our back.

"It's not just about that, it's about winning silverware and getting this club back to where it belongs, and that's competing with the elite at the top.

"We're in a position to win all three but, if you asked me at the start of the year about winning the Challenge Cup, I'd have snatched your hand off."

Houghton is one of five current players who played in the team that lost 16-0 to Wigan in the 2013 final and says they will draw extra motivation from that disappointment.

"2013 is not something we're proud of," he said. "It's something we want to put to bed.

"We'll take a lot out of that in terms of the hype of it all and the atmosphere. We've witnessed that and hopefully it won't take us by surprise, I think it got us a little bit in 2013."
