The Red Devils were led to a 30-20 victory over the Giants by man-of-the-match Gareth O'Brien on Thursday night.
The full-back scored two of the Red Devils' four tries and kicked seven goals from as many attempts to almost single-handedly condemn the Giants to defeat in the rearranged round 11 fixture in the Betfred Super League.
But Salford captain Dobson also had a strong hand in the victory, with his 40-20 setting up O'Brien's first try at the beginning of the second half.
The win is Salford's first of the season, after they fell 26-16 to Wigan in the opening round, while the Giants will rue a missed opportunity to top the table - even if temporarily - with back-to-back wins to start their 2017 campaign.
