Scott Taylor is hoping to emulate his 2013 Challenge Cup success with new club Hull FC on Friday evening.

Taylor was in the Wigan team that beat FC 16-0 at Wembley three years ago, but there will be no divided loyalties when he lines up against Shaun Wane's side in the first semi-final at Doncaster on Friday night.

"It was strange," he said of the 2013 final. "A lot of my family were in the Hull FC end with Hull FC shirts on.

"But I had a job to do. I was 21 and I hadn't won anything before so to get to play at Wembley and win a trophy with Wigan was an absolutely unbelievable feeling.

"If I managed to do that with Hull FC, you could times it by two."

Taylor began his professional career in the east of the city with Hull KR before moving to Wigan four years ago and also had a spell with Salford before finally getting his wish to play for his beloved Black and Whites.

Hull have famously never won at Wembley and to get the chance to break their hoodoo, but Taylor knows they face a tough test getting past a Wigan side who will be highly motivated by their coach.

"Obviously Shaun Wane gets his troops revved up," he said. "I was lucky enough to play under Shaun and he got me going.

"I think they're going to come out firing. We need to stay composed in that first 20 minutes and not force anything. And if, after 60 minutes, there's only one try either way, well back ourselves to finish the job."

Three of the four semi-finalists occupy the top three spots in Super League - Warrington meet outsiders Wakefield in the other tie at Leigh on Saturday afternoon - and have a chance to emulate Leeds' 2015 feat in completing the rare modern-day treble.

Hull are in pole position after finishing top of Super League at the end of the 23-game regular season and Taylor admits all their efforts so far would be in vain if they fail to land silverware.

"It's an opportunity we can't miss," he said. "I think if we don't win anything now, it would be really unsuccessful season. We've put ourselves in this position but we haven't won anything yet."
