Denny Solomona scored a hat-trick as Castleford came from behind to beat Widnes 34-24 at the Select Security Stadium.

The Tigers were 18-0 down after 20 minutes, but mounted a fightback led by Solomona and Luke Gale.

Widnes opened the scoring on three minutes when a slick passing move was finished neatly by winger Patrick Ah Van, before Chris Bridge added the extras.

Bridge converted again after Joe Mellor sent Macgraff Leuluai surging over from close range for the Vikings' second score.

But the Tigers hit back with Jake Webster picking out Solomona for his first try, before the winger grabbed his second with a solo effort.

Both sides had further opportunities to add to their first-half tally, but went into the interval with the score at 18-10.

Within three minutes of the restart Solomona completed his hat-trick, capitalising on a sublime offload from Webster before Gale added the extras.

The Tigers went ahead for the first time on 52 minutes when Ryan Boyle crossed over after Solomona's tap near the Widnes line, making the score 22-18.

Gale then got on the scoresheet as he dummied his way over for a self-converted try which gave his side a 28-18 advantage.

Widnes' Lloyd White smartly made his way through with eight minutes remaining for a try which Bridge converted to set up a tense finale.

But it was the Tigers who closed out the match when Paul McShane crossed from the play-the-ball for the clinching six-pointer and condemn the hosts to their fourth defeat in a row.
