England's new boss Wayne Bennett will coach past his 69th birthday after confirming he has signed a two-year contract extension with Brisbane Broncos.
The 66-year-old has been appointed by the Rugby Football League until the end of the 2017 World Cup, when he is expected to hand over the England reins to a yet-to-be-named assistant.
But he will remain in charge of the Broncos until at least the end of 2019, just short of his 70th birthday, after confirming that he will see out his career with the Queenslanders.
"I thought it was important we got it sorted and the club did too," said Bennett. "That way everyone knows where they are going."
The news comes on the eve of the Broncos' biggest match of the year, the derby against North Queensland on Good Friday, a re-run of October's Grand Final which the Cowboys won with a golden point.
And Broncos chief executive Paul White said the dual coaching role taken on by Bennett, who is widely acknowledged as the most successful coach in Australian rugby league history with seven premierships, is beneficial to the NRL side.
