Hull have called up Craig Hall to fill in at full-back as they welcome the Catalans Dragons to the KC Stadium on Friday night.
Hall has not featured in the first two games of the season but coach Richard Agar has selected the 21-year-old after Todd Byrne failed to recover from a knee injury he picked up in last week's victory over the Crusaders.
"Craig has been unlucky not to have made the 17 in our opening two games but now he has got a great chance," said Agar.
"He had some tough times last season but he has responded magnificently, he has trained well throughout the off season and shown a good attitude.
"Craig has trained at full back and has played in the position before and this could prove another important string to his bow."
Danny Washbrook is also missing from the initial 19 after suffering a hamstring injury against the Crusaders, and will not be risked so early in the season.
Tommy Lee is likely to be handed a place on the bench.
Catalans are set to welcome back influential hooker Casey Maguire after he missed the rousing comeback win at Warrington with a rib injury.
But coach Kevin Walters is without Dane Carlaw until April due to a knee injury, while Jamal Fakir is suspended.
Julien Touxages, Florian Quintilla and Vincent Duport are all in contention for a place in the starting line-up.
Hull: Hall, Calderwood, G. Horne, Yeaman, Briscoe, R. Horne, Thorman, Dowes, Berrigan, Cusack, Burnett, Tickle, Radford, Houghton, Thackray, Manu, Lee, Maloney, King.
Catalans Dragons: Baile, Bell, Bosc, Casty, Croker, Duport, Elima, Ferriol, Gossard, Greenshields, Guisset, McGuire, Mogg, Mounis, Pelo, Perry, Quintilla, Stacul, Touxagas.
