Wakefield Wildcats welcome back Jason Demetriou and Danny Brough for Saturday's trip to Catalans Dragons.
Both players have been named in the initial 19-man squad and Kear is considering how to fit them into his starting line-up.
A virus forced captain Demetriou to miss the Wildcats' 40-28 win against the Wolves on August 21, while scrum-half Brough was suspended.
Kear said: "JD has fully recovered and Danny is back from suspension - but that has caused a lot of head-scratching.
"Brad Drew, Scott Grix, Sam Obst and Tevita Leo-Latu were sensational in that nine-seven-six role so we will have to make the right decisions.
"But I'd be a fool not to include Danny Brough in the 17 so he will certainly feature at some stage."
Catalans Dragons have centre Jean-Philippe Baile back in the side to boost their fortunes, along with the return of both full-back Clint Greenshields, and back-rower Jamal Fakir.
Half-back Thomas Bosc will also be a big boost as he comes back into the side, while more good news comes in the return of centre or second-rower Jason Croker, who will make his final home appearance ahead of his anticipated retirement.
Catalans squad: Baile, Bird, Bosc, Casty, Croker, Duport, Elima, Ferriol, Gossard, Greenshields, Guisset, Martins, McGuire, Mogg, Mounis, Pelo, Raguin, Ryles, Stacul
Wakefield squad: Blaymire, Atkins, Brough, Demetriou, Drew, Snitch, Wilkes, Grix, Obst , Stosic, Henderson, Winternstein, Gleeson, Leo-Latu, Korkidas, Ferguson, Moore, George, Bibb
